Cosmic Weather Forecast August
Get your sun on…
Ok people, fasten your seatbelts… the cosmos has some surprises in store in August! It’s all about love… well, quite a lot, really. The sun in Leo is super strong in its home sign – it’s the height of summer and a time for heart-felt romances, play and fun in the sun. Creativity and self-expression are very well starred, as the sun in Leo wants us to shine as brightly as himself. From August 8th, Mars joins the sun here so there’s extra fuel for the Leo fire. Mars is the ruler of fellow fire sign Aries and himself quite a bomb. Expect fiery playful flirts to erupt all over, or fired-up arguments, or a mix of both... spicy!! Venus will be in Leo during the whole month as well, with the small detail (lol) of her being retrograde. More on this below.
The month is kicked off by a strong full moon in 7 degrees Aquarius on July 31st. That full moon untypically makes no aspects, but concentrates all our attention on the Aquarius – Leo opposition between moon and sun. Amongst all the Leo energy, that moon in detached and open-for-all Aquarius sets an eccentric accent at the very start of the month. It’s about how to reconcile different styles of relating and the opposites in relationships and within ourselves, too. The month starts with a suggestion to really pay attention to freedom, equality and inclusion and keeping a cool, detached head (Aquarius). Maybe this is a needed breath of fresh air in the hot Leo season which brings a lot of heart, but also some big ego and pressure to conform to the sun king. So the moon reminds us to be ourselves, no matter what they say... and dare to look beyond conventions in relating to others, too.
The party queen sobers up
Venus, ruler of love, relationships, beauty, and money, takes center stage this month for a couple of reasons.
First of all, just a few hours after the full moon on July 31st , Venus moves back into Leo, giving even more power to that fire sign energy in August. Venus in Leo is the party-queen-hostess-with-the-mostest, the warm-hearted curvy soul diva, the biggest flirt in town who’s never cheap though… During her retrograde motion however, Venus’ flair is considerably diminished. The party isn’t over, but it’s the moment when you don’t feel so much like dancing anymore. You go to the bathroom to check if your mascara is smeared all over or you withdraw into a corner with a glass of wine (or water if you’ve had too many of those already…) and assess the evening. Venus retrograde is a time of testing how true we are to our values, how we relate and what state our relationships are in. Venus in Leo still wants to party, but retrograde she definitely sobers up.
So what with all that partying, reality checks are also on the menu in August. Venusian matters are under review not only from the retrograde, but from a square from Saturn to Venus and Jupiter as well. Saturn is the planet of structure, discipline, maturity, reality, obstacles and authority. Hard aspects from Saturn represent pressure and challenges. Saturn will give our way of relating a reality check that can feel quite depressing and may push things to a breaking point actually. On top of it, Saturn is extra strong in early August because on the 2nd he goes direct again. It could be that a lover is hard to reach, absent, or seemingly cools off, or it may be you – pay attention if what you feel comes really from the other person or rather from your own unresolved old sh***. Don’t rush to conclusions, and don’t get all Saturn – strict, distanced and cold. For what it’s worth, stoke Venus’ fire and find a stoic, responsible and mature approach to any relationship problems. That includes seeing what has really outlived its purpose, and what’s worth work and patience. For some relationships this strain might be too much to bear. For some, it will be the test that will get you your diploma.
On August 6th, there will be a rare and quite spectacular conjunction of Mercury, Venus, and Jupiter at 28 Leo in exact square to Saturn. This could mean very good news, big parties, big luck… with some Saturn thrown in the mix. Actually the square gives a lot of energy to all parties (lol) concerned, so we are dealing with strong love and magic combined with a real test of strength, endurance, discipline, and faith… Saturn square Jupiter could also play out as a nerve-fraying inner contradiction between the wish to save up, withdraw, to get that tax declaration finally off your back (Saturn) and the wish to let your hair down, expand, party, and be generous. Financial strain and pressure could arise, made more poignant by the fact that Saturn is in Scorpio, which rules joint finances, and taxes… However, the forward move of Saturn and the uber-lucky conjunction of Venus and Jupiter suggest that solutions might be close at hand. It’s the last day with Venus visible in the Night sky, too, before her descent in the underworld. That she’s being escorted to the doors of Hades by Jupiter and the Mercury is probably a one in a million event – so let’s see how things will go…
New Moon, new cards…
The new moon on August 14th will finally bring a more relaxed vibe to the cosmic weather than the last lunations. It’s taking place at 21 degrees Leo, the place of the first and truly magnificent conjunction of Venus and Jupiter on July 1st. So any magic, love, luck or enthusiasm that you found at that time might get a much-needed rejuvenation! After all that testing business it’s about time…
The new moon is conjunct Venus, too, and in positive Aspect to Uranus, planet of sudden illuminations, shocks and surprises. Positive aspects to Uranus mostly mean positive shocks and surprises... Expect the unexpected. Like a chance meeting with really nice people, an unexpected bonus or gift or a day where nothing goes as planned (that tax declaration…) but everything goes even better. One day later, Venus is in exact conjunction (called Cazimi) with our central star, the sun. Some warm solar wind behind our retrograde Queen of heavens. Reeeeeeee-light my fire…
One week later, from August 23rd, Venus reemerges from her merge with the solar flames and is once again the morning star – Lucifer. This can be a time when there’s a strong urge for some lovemaking and poor impulse control, so you better think twice whom YOU merge your energy with…
Gentlemen prefer… Virgo
Mid-month, there’s a shift in the background cosmic weather. August 11th, Greater good fortune planet Jupiter is finishing his year-long stay in Leo. Which means that starting from the second part of the month, Virgo qualities will get an extra boost of energy. Whatever area Virgo rules in your individual chart will receive a shot of good luck and support. We get lucky when we put that big Lion ego aside and look where we can be of service; pay attention to detail; purify our body and mind, develop a daily discipline and use discrimination and discernment in all our dealings. Beware of being super critical though… Leo’s ego is still going strong this month and that nagging Virgo perfectionism can really be too much sometimes! Even after Jupiter`s move into Virgo he’s actually still quite liony as the core star of constellation of the Lion, Regulus, is situated at 0 Virgo… Jupiter on this very important Royal Star of Persia will kick off Brave hearts and Courage in matters of the heart big time. Jupiter on Regulus is also the general and leader in times of war. Let’s hope this war will be a war for something that’s worth fighting for.
Quick glances and cutting words
Between August 7th and 27th, Mercury the messenger, will also be in Virgo, moving swiftly through its home sign. Mercury is very comfortable here and loves that quick glance that captures all details and an accurate analysis of any given situation. Practical, fast and acute like a surgeon’s scalpel – think the Terminator’s vision… This time can be used for any tasks that need good organizing and analyzing capabilities. Just don’t let your words cut like a scalpel, too… at least not outside the treatment room. And finally, on August 23rd, the sun also moves into Virgo; the end of the month will thus bring a definite emphasis on work, health, fixing up the house after the party and finding satisfaction in a planned and proper daily life.
The month ends with a full moon on August 29th in early Pisces that gets the magic on (again) big time. It’s conjunct Neptune, planet of dreams, visions, cosmic sensitivity (and illusions…), with the sun opposite conjunct Jupiter in early Virgo. Both Neptune and Jupiter blow things up, one in a larger-than-life technicolor dreamscape way and the other in a big heart- big spender – big enthusiasm - big everything way… So the last weekend in August, there is literally going to be a full-blown cosmic party!
Venus is still retrograde but will reach an exact conjunction with lover Mars on September 1st, which is already in power on the weekend as well. They meet at 14 Leo, smack in the middle of that party sign. Expect loved-up sports and yoga – and love sports… It’s a real dream when Mars and Venus, Movement/Energy/Sex and Love/Fun conjoin in the Sign that rules the heart. I’m getting hot just thinking about it J
Things get further spiced up with an inconjunct from Pluto to Mars/Venus – this adds considerable depth and additional power to whatever happens around that last August weekend.
Crossroads to a Path with Heart
For some people, this full moon may bring a real-life changer, a message, person or information that hits the mark. Mercury is exactly on the lunar north node. The lunar north node stands for the path best for our soul growth in this life. So whatever info comes to us or what- and whoever comes into our life around the full moon time may well get us aligned with some part of our destiny, some new path we could travel that feels just right for our heart. Just wait a few weeks to get clarity about it, remember Neptune and Jupiter figure strongly during this moon, and they might blur and blow things a little over the top. So enjoy that magic end of a magic month and give it all your fire! On September 6th, Venus will go direct and from mid-October on, those Saturn tests will get considerably lighter. If it feels like magic – who knows, perhaps it is!!
