New Moon June 2015
The moon has a special significance in astrology. It is like the fast moving hand of the clock, indicating the timing of events and the mood of the moment. The sun takes 365 days to travel through the 12 signs of the zodiac; the moon only 28 days. Roughly every two and a half days, she changes signs, a very human measure in comparison to some other planets – Jupiter who takes a year for one sign, Saturn who takes 2 and a half years, not days, or the outer planets who can take a human life span or even more for one circle through the 13 constellations.
One month is a human measure, a plannable and imaginable time. The cycle of the moon divides the 28 days in two halves, a new and a full moon. The new moon works basically like a cosmic re-set button. It’s a time of starting over afresh, every 28 days. It’s a time for planting, seeding, both plants and projects and intentions, just like each morning is the fresh start of the day where we plan ahead and set the mood for what’s to come. You cannot see the new moon in the sky; she gets no light from the sun. Her position, however, says a lot about the energies that will unfold during the next 4 weeks.
Being aware of the moon’s cycle is a way to connect more to the rhythms of nature to which we are naturally attuned but which got overruled by human-made structures like the lack of rest, high level of stress, and the need for our bodies to adapt to the rhythm of machines and office hours.
The moon is like a loving mother; she is always there, even when we don’t see her… day and night… reminding us of who we really are. Of possibilities that are bathed in moonlight, when the earth suddenly dons a different face… of the fact that night and day, dark and light, are equally strong and that we, too, are less explainable beings that we are led to believe. Our body responds to the pull of the moon. Even if we don’t pay attention, the ocean in us moves anyway.
New Moon June 16, 2015
The new moon for this month occurred yesterday in 25 degrees Gemini, roughly conjunct the red giant star Betelgeuse in Orion’s shoulder. Its main aspect is a close proximity to Mars whom the sun just overtook, travelling at 24 degrees Gemini. Mars has been the sun’s travelling companion for the past few days, invigorating communication – possibly leading to arguments - and firing up intellectual activity and group efforts. The new moon takes this energy into the next month. It is an excellent time to jumpstart new projects, especially projects that are concerned with the dissemination of ideas, information, and to use networking and social networks to do so.
Eager for work
The masculine air sign Gemini in combination with warrior planet Mars indicates that we will be tense and eager to push forward with projects, writing, and new information. Normally, June 21st, the sun’s entry into tropical cancer – the moon’s home sign, sign of nuture, ripening fruit, of carefree (family) gatherings and holidays by the sea side – marks the start of a softer vibration. This new moon indicates that there will be a more active, aggressive and intellectual energy carrying over well past the summer solstice - working holidays maybe?
Get your stuff out there
Mercury who rules this new moon because he’s the ruler of Gemini, forms an opposition to Saturn. Saturn is regarded as lord of karma and the strict teacher who asks you to do your homework before you go out to play. Depending on how you use this energy, then, you could feel either that there are obstacles in your path, or authorities holding you back, or you could use Saturn’s harshness to get disciplined and follow through with projects – or both. At the same time, Mercury forms a harmonious aspect to the lunar north node, the point of the soul’s biggest development. That sounds like an opportunity to move ahead not just any project, but especially those which yield soul growth and sustainable results – a magical window of opportunity. Maybe we will overcome a kind of collective writer’s block in the next four weeks, put in some effort and finally come out of the closet and air out those old dreams… give them fresh form, and put them out there with confidence. It’s about time!
Unique opportunities (aka pool parties)
Another aspect that supports that feeling of unique opportunity waiting just around the corner is a strong and rare supportive aspect between Uranus in Aries and Jupiter in Leo. Picture the fiery, spiritual revolutionary in league with the powerful benefactor who throws a magnificent fundraising party at his pool… unlikely alliances are possible, combining fun with some worthy cause. This could also mean electrically charged flirts or, seriously, wonderful summer parties with networking and exchanging innovative ideas…
It’s not all fun and games though. In the background, we still have the repercussions of the last and waning Uranus-Pluto square signifying changes that can be heartbreaking at first but turn out to be groundbreaking later… kicking our asses towards a more authentic way of living. Saturn just regressed into Scorpio where he will stay until September. There, he is teaming up with Pluto in Capricorn and has a last go at tearing down any structures and obligations that hold you back from the expression of your true self for this lifetime. If this sounds dramatic – maybe it is.
So, expect a month full of vigorous pushing, probably with pressure from outside as well as an inner urge to finally get started/finished with what you want, that yields unique moments of almost magical fun, surprises, excitement and affection. Adding to this, sustained efforts in talking, writing, publishing and networking which perhaps express some of the results of the deep and lasting changes in your life and mind that you accomplished in the last three years…
The motto of this new moon: Disciplined fun or fun discipline, do your best and finally launch the stuff you care about!
