Mini-Preview of New Year’s Eve and the first half of 2016: Welcome to intensity
Good bye 2015…
So, this beautiful, painful, groundbreaking and ground-shaking 2015 is coming to a close. We have some astro highlights to look back to. And to look forward of course!! But first, a short look in the rearview mirror.
Venus, retro (2015)
One thing few people will feel nostalgic about is that Venus retrograde in July-September. Combined with the final passage of Saturn through late Scorpio, squaring Venus, the result was mostly something like a fakir training camp… Ups, watch those big spikes in your ass… and that stake through your heart! There was a lot going on that felt very fated. Fatal attractions, re-dos, attempts to heat up yesterday’s lunch... some new beginnings, and some very final cuts.
Healing, Part 1 (2015)
But the universe wasn’t just being a giant Black (A-) Hole. Many people experienced real healing this year. It wasn't of the rose colored variety, though. As the personal planets passed through Virgo, they all made aspects to Uranus in Aries, and Chiron and Neptune in Pisces: deep heeling, unconventional healing, or healing through the shocks that had happened. That mostly worked in a three-step-process. First, experiencing a hurt. Second, seeing the new wound as part of a chain of unresolved old wounds, a personal pattern. Third, finding - often surprising - opportunities for healing.
And Part 2 (2016)
But this was just the beginning. The (re-)experiencing and final healing of old wounds is a focus of 2016 as well. Actually, we will collectively and individually encounter the deepest wounds of our past - including past lives and family lines – and find support for closure so we will be able to move forward as changed people. This is a unique opportunity symbolized by Jupiter travelling close to the north node in Virgo opposing wounded healer Chiron. In other words, taking care of yourself and others, healing yourself and others is the royal road in 2016. Latest when the south node of the moon hits Chiron in Pisces in March/April, watch for amazing revelations, personally and in the collective.
New Year’s Eve!!!
New Year’s will actually be bang on with that energy. We start at 0:00 with the moon in Virgo conjunct Jupiter and the Node. So I’d say, stay prim folks, restraint is sexy tonight… Not too much champagne, either, for Virgo is not the sign known for orgies. Although Jupiter surely is… Well during the year he spends in Virgo he’s like the party animal who fell in love with his personal trainer. To impress her, he could find himself going with carrot sticks and no caviar. Served with a green smoothie ;) No seriously, some alcohol-reduced light champagne should be fine, lol!! And you could meet a charming yoga instructor on new year’s eve, don’t say no to his/her celery dip…
The strong Virgo tendency can lead to an equally strong urge to spend time alone, cleaning, just lighting a candle... Luckily enough for some good cheer on New Year’s eve, at least party planet Venus has left dark-jealous-plotting-and-brooding Scorpio for cheerful, expansive Sagittarius. So Venus carries the torch in Jupiter’s home sign, lighting the fire under our asses and in our hearts! Lovely. There WILL be some partying and fun tonight, no worries :)
Bad boy Mars is currently touring the last degrees of Venus’ sign, Libra. He can hardly wait to leave that harmony –infested placement and go stir up trouble again… However, for the party, Mars in Libra sounds perfect. It might look like this: guys running around preparing salads, carrying bottles, putting up decorations… Later, vigorous flirts and sexy moves on the dance floor. And chances are that after all that work, the hosts will still be well-dressed, attentive and charming (Sorry guys, you’ll have to do all the work tonight).
Ok, let’s enjoy that while it lasts. As of January 3rd, Mars will change signs into Scorpio, a sign he co-rules. With Pluto, lord of the underworld. So much for sweet chats and champagne flutes… Actually, due to a retrograde, Mars will stay in Scorpio much longer than usual. It’ll be high summer when Mars leaves the underworld. What does that mean? Well, it means, there will be a lot of energy available, of the warrior kind, aim-oriented, sometimes ruthless. There will be opportunities for investing into deep transformative processes, to build up businesses, clear up finances, and explore intimacy and sex on a really amazing level.
The dark side of the force...
Mars in Scorpio however because of its intensity can also bring violence, sexual violence, war, rude and crude power games, obsessions and liaisons dangereuses, and a lot of anger and fighting connected to shared ressources and finances. There could be aggressive transgression of taboos. It’s a wild card especially because Mars will go retrograde, too, from April to June.
The warrior retreats
Of all the planets, it's perhaps strangest for Mars to go backwards - after all, he's the planet of action and likes to move if not storm, ahead. Mars retrograde means a do-over of Mars-related themes. Energy levels will change, anger can turn inward and implode. Your sex drive might fluctuate (wildly I might say). Some astrologers advise not to have sex with someone for the first time during that period. I'd say because of Scorpio, watch who you are falling in love with..! Old lovers might come back. Who knows - Mars in Scorpio is going to be intense, that's for sure. It'll mean a deep recapitulation of how we use our energy, how we deal with intimacy, power, and our resources.
The year starts with another recapitulation, with Mercury retrograde in Capricorn from January 5th to 25th. Mercury turns retro squaring Mars, on the day the sun is conjunct Pluto - ouch, that's quite a heavy energy! I don't know why I think of a Boxer getting punched with an iron first... This energy can certainly get you started, despite Mercury retrograde being usually a period for rumination. The messenger planet goes direct with an easy aspect to Mars and in conjunction to Pluto. It seems to me that January until mid-february will be a time of heavy lifting, figuratively and perhaps literally.
Mercury in Capricorn is sober, practical, and career-oriented. It's rather conservative and wants to see results. The Mars and Pluto connection gives it all the more impact. This retrograde is definitely stirring the pot. Yes, that pot that Mars in Scorpio already brings to a boiling point. This could mean that you will have the chance or be pressed to really get going in January, to plan, strategize, and take action. You might come up against resistance or strong powers, or exert the power / pressure yourself. Best is, don't do impulsive acts you might regret later. Try to proceed rationally and safely, and don't use hurtful words or pressure tactiques. Do martial arts or really power intense yoga instead and scream in your pillow instead of at your boss. If you have to sign contracts or other binding agreements, just be very sure about the doability of your plan, cooperation or project.
All about Saturn
Saturn will keep touring fiery, expansive and generous Sagittarius. So we can be sure that Saturn's lessons will be more agreeable than in the last three years - the somber taskmaster might actually give us a pat on the shoulder at some point or even crack a wry smile... Learning and expanding horizons is very well starred the whole year. Returning to Academia, starting a course of studies, and closing gaps in your skills and expertise is a really good idea. On the other hand, Saturn's influence in Jupiter's sign might mean you'll have to deal with restrictions, regulations, red tape, or an obnoxious authority figure on your way. Saturn then asks you, as always, to just do a thorough job and work through the obstacles.
Dreams are my reality...
One of the biggest aspects of the whole year will be the stressful aspect between Saturn and Neptune. Saturn is the ultimate reality principle, the hard cold brick wall of the time/space continuum, of money and structure that daydreamers and visionaries sometimes bang their heads against... Neptune on the other hand is the ultimate dreamer, master of illusions and fantasy. His range reaches from divine inspiration, heavenly love, forgiveness and bliss to the most callous notorious liar and cheat, crazy drug addict or violent alcoholic... Hmmm.... Let's just say this much: We should all know our limits this year or that brick wall might come uncomfortably close. Less is more, especially when it comes to drugs and other attempts to escape reality.
...oh wait, or was it the other way around?
If you do know your limits, and can keep up structure and discipline, then on the other hand this year could be THE chance to make dreams come true. Especially dreams in the field of education, sports, adventure, travel, philsophy (Sagittarius) or spirituality, the arts, music, dance, compassion, charity (Pisces). I see some dream retreats being prepared... or freelancers in those fields finally getting on their own feet and finding ways to structure what was previously just intuition.
And Virgo, again ;)
There will be, at any rate, a lot going on in the fields of healing and learning, because - let's not forget - Jupiter is in Virgo until September. The North node of greatest development is there, too. Jupiter and the node both will have numerous contacts with Saturn, pushing the building up of structures that I mentionend before. Anything to do with service to others will be especially well starred. So this is not a year for inflated egos. It's a year of modesty, sobriety, and effort... and then, yes, you can allow yourself to dream....
In April/May Earth signs will be especially boosted because there will be personal planets in Taurus connecting to Jupiter/Node in Virgo and Pluto in Capricorn. This underlines the theme of practicality and building things up this year. Depending on your own chart, you might just have a really good flow in spring..!! I'm so curious now.... Let's use this beautiful potential. Welcome 2016!!!!
